When you are older you have a much deeper perspective as you look back over the many years. Thinking about my children, their dysfunctional lives and the small children that become victims. When they were little they saw their dad break from the foundation of Christ and go and follow the desires of his own heart without regard for theirs. Even if I came back to Christ years later the damage has already been done.
Now I get to watch the effects in my grandchildren trying to navigate and deal with their distorted view of God, broken commitments, children born out of wedlock, alcohol, falling in lust instead of knowing what real love is and the list goes on. Jesus was not lying when He stated there is only one foundation that we must build our lives upon if we want a house that will stand every storm.
When kids grow up in and out of a church family, hopping from one church to another, living self-absorbed entertaining lives, watching us say we believe in God then live hypocritical then we should not be surprised with the results. Many children grow up having no sure “consistent” and “solid” foundation to sink their roots into and grow in an authentic relationship with God their Savoir.
If this is your story as well, you might as well lay down your pride and admit it and start right now living out your faith with all your heart, thoughts and strength and pray hard that someone in the family will break the cycle and come and follow Jesus for all its worth. Never too late to start a new legacy before we die.
Matthew 7:23-25
And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” ~ Jesus
